INGREDIENT FOCUS: HYALURONIC ACID
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
Hyaluronic Acid is a gel-like water holding molecule which is composed partly of sugar and is a natural structural component of skin. It is present in connective tissue throughout the human body and is found in the highest concentrations in the eyes and joints. The average human body contains around 15 grams of Hyaluronic Acid, yet one third is degraded on a daily basis. As you age, the body stops producing as much Hyaluronic Acid and it has been estimated that by mid 40’s, we will have roughly half of the Hyaluronic Acid that is required by the body.
WHAT DOES HYALURONIC ACID IN SKINCARE DO?
Hyaluronic Acid in skincare is helpful for all skin types, especially working wonders for dry, dehydrated skin. Keeping your skin well-hydrated and plump, the acid’s molecules have the ability to retain more than 1,000 times their weight in water, which is more than any other biological substance. With some products, they simply sit on top of the skin. However, when containing Hyaluronic Acid, it absorbs more efficiently and its deep hydrating properties leave better results. This multi-purpose skincare miracle also plumps wrinkles and fine lines temporarily due to its strong moisturizing ability. Hyaluronic Acid is considered equally important to the skin as collagen, if not more important. One of the reasons for this is that Hyaluronic Acid has the ability to remove waste matter from cells, including those where there is little blood circulation, resulting in increased skin softness and smoothness. There’s not much it can’t do really!
As with any change in your skincare routine, be sure to introduce new products gradually and don’t expect instant results. Refining your skincare to suit your needs will also be a slow and rewarding process, so be patient to reap the rewards from your new skincare regime!
